Ukraine synchronized sanctions with the European Union and introduced new packages of restrictions

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed two decrees implementing the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine to synchronize sanctions with decisions of the European Union, the press service of the Office of the President reported.

The synchronization of sanctions within the EU's 20th package covers 120 individuals and organizations and introduces economic restrictions targeting key sectors of the Russian economy. Some of them are already under sanctions by Ukraine, and the new NSDC decision additionally affects 16 Russians and 31 companies from the Russian Federation, Belarus, the UAE, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.

The list of restrictions includes enterprises of the Russian military-industrial complex (MIC), manufacturers of electronic warfare (EW) systems, software, and companies producing oil, gas, and gold.

In particular, Ukraine has imposed sanctions on Russian aerospace manufacturer Atlant Aero LLC and manufacturer of communication systems and components for drones and missiles Irz-Zvyazok LLC. Also under sanctions are UAE firms that supply equipment for Russian laboratories and spare parts for aircraft, and an oil exporter from Belarus.

Among the individuals sanctioned were the heads of strategic Russian enterprises, units of the Russian army, as well as three Russians:

  • Lyudmila Balandina is a prosecutor who was involved in systemic repressions and human rights violations against people who supported Ukraine or criticized the Russian government;
  • Dmytro Gordeev is a judge also involved in the repressions, who made politically motivated decisions against oppositionists and human rights defenders;
  • Maria Sittel is a Russian editor and propagandist who systematically spread disinformation.

Separately, the NSDC imposed restrictions against 19 Iranian citizens, 7 Sudanese citizens, and 11 Iranian companies that support ballistic missile and drone production programs.

"We continue to synchronize sanctions regimes with the EU and partners. We expect further increased pressure on Russia and all those who help it support aggression," said Vladyslav Vlasyuk, Advisor and Presidential Envoy for Sanctions Policy.

He added that joint work on drafts of the next sanctions decisions of the EU and partner states, in particular the 21st package of sanctions, is being completed.
